Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 14, 2026

MapOn (the "App", "we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using MapOn, you agree to the practices described here.

Privacy-first design: MapOn analyzes your photos' GPS metadata on your device. Your photos themselves are never uploaded to our servers.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Photo metadata (on-device only)

When you grant photo library access, MapOn reads the GPS coordinates and date metadata of your photos. This processing happens entirely on your device. The photos themselves do not leave your device.

1.2 Account information (if you sign in)

If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email, display name, and profile photo URL for the purpose of cloud sync and ranking features. We do not receive your password.

1.3 User-generated content (if you save)

Diaries you write, photobooks you compose, and trip data you save are stored in our cloud database (Google Firebase Firestore) and associated with your account. You can delete this content at any time from within the app.

1.4 Usage analytics

We collect anonymized usage data (screen views, feature taps, crash reports) via Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics. This data helps us improve the app. It cannot be used to identify you personally.

1.5 Advertising identifiers (with your consent)

If you grant App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission on iOS, advertising SDKs may receive your Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) for personalized ads. You can revoke this at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy > Tracking. If you decline, you will still see non-personalized ads, and the app's core functionality remains unchanged.

1.6 Purchase records

In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. Purchase records are linked to your account via RevenueCat (our subscription management partner) to deliver entitlements across devices. We never receive your payment card information.

2. How We Use Information

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

4. Your Rights (Including California Residents — CCPA)

You have the right to:

5. International Users (Including EU/EEA — GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Our lawful basis for processing is consent (for analytics and ads) and contract (to provide the App).

6. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

MapOn is rated 4+ and is suitable for general audiences, but we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete associated data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., transaction records for tax purposes).

8. Data Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS) for data in transit and rely on Google Firebase's security infrastructure for data at rest. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, however.

9. Third-Party Services

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified within the app or via email (if applicable). The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
